How to Make a Church Reel That Actually Gets Views

Reels are the single best way for your church to reach people who don't follow you yet. The good news: you don't need fancy gear or a huge following. You need a few simple habits. Here's what actually moves the needle.

Hook them in the first second

People decide whether to keep watching almost instantly. Open with movement, a bold on-screen line of text, or a question — not a slow logo animation. Say the interesting part first and earn the next three seconds.

Keep it short and vertical

Shoot vertically (9:16) and aim for under 20 seconds to start. Short reels get watched all the way through more often, and completion is exactly what the algorithm rewards. You can always make longer ones once shorter ones are landing.

Add captions — most people watch on mute

A huge share of viewers scroll with the sound off. Burn captions into the video so your message lands with no audio. The Instagram "edits" app and CapCut both add auto-captions in a couple of taps.

Use trending audio — carefully

Trending sounds can give a reel an extra push, but only if they fit. Save trends you like as you spot them, and reach for one when it genuinely matches your idea. A forced trend is worse than no trend at all.

Post consistently and give it time

One reel won't change everything — a habit will. Post regularly, watch which ones do well, and make more of those. Reels also keep getting served for days or weeks, so don't judge one by its first hour. Need ideas to film? That's exactly what our weekly Social Roundups are for.
